It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph (Joe) Allan Taliaferro, who departed this life on May 15, 2026, at the age of 68. Joe passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and indomitable spirit. Born on May 11, 1958, in Columbus, Ohio, Joe was the beloved son of Charles Taliaferro and Jane Ann Howerton, and cherished stepson of Steve Howerton, all of whom he has now joined in eternal rest, along with his brother, Wayne Taliaferro.
A proud son of Columbus, Joe graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1976, where he cultivated friendships and memories that would last a lifetime. Shortly after graduating, he embarked on a career with Carquest Autoparts in 1977 as an autoparts specialist, dedicating his life to a profession he truly adored. Joe was known for his unparalleled expertise and his unwavering commitment to helping others in his line of work.
On November 13, 1976, Joe married the love of his life, Laura, with whom he shared 49 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a loving home filled with joy, resilience, and the laughter of their children, Julie (James) Gardner and Brian Taliaferro. Joe was a devoted husband and father, who found immense pride and joy in his family.
Joe’s heart was further warmed by the presence of his four grandchildren: Abigail, Wyatt, Carson Gardner, and Sophia Taliaferro. He was the epitome of a doting grandfather, always eager to share his wisdom, humor, and love with them. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
An avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Oakland Raiders, Joe's passion for sports was infectious. He reveled in the highs and lows of every game, and his excitement was a beacon for those who shared these moments with him. Joe also had a deep love for auto racing, a passion he pursued with the same fervor he applied to every aspect of his life. In quieter times, Joe found solace in the simple pleasure of fishing, where he enjoyed the tranquility of nature.
Joe was a man of great character, whose kindness and warmth touched everyone he met. His laughter was infectious, his spirit unyielding, and his love for life unending. He will be remembered for his generosity, his steadfast dedication to family and friends, and his ability to bring people together.
The family invites friends and loved ones to join in a celebration of Joe’s life, where stories, laughter, and memories will be shared in honor of a truly remarkable man. Details of the service will be announced shortly.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Joe’s memory to a charity of your choice, as a way of continuing his legacy of giving and kindness.
