Joseph Funches, age 48, of Chicago, Illinois, who departed this life on August 26, 2026. Born on March 14, 1978, in Gunnison, Mississippi, to the late Martha Williams and Willie Funches, Joseph was a beacon of kindness and humor from a young age, with a spirit that illuminated every room he entered. His faith, which he embraced early in life, was a guiding force throughout his journey, nurturing his roles as a devoted husband, father, and friend.
Joseph's life was a testament to love, perseverance, and commitment to his family. He married his soulmate, Jessica, and together they nurtured a loving home in Illinois, raising two beautiful children, Adrianna (fondly known as Arie) and Derrick. A man of diverse talents, Joseph followed his passion for barbering, completing barber school in 2006. Beyond his professional life, he found solace in the tranquility of fishing and took delight in cooking, sharing his culinary creations with those he loved. Joseph's generous nature and desire to help others were defining aspects of his character, and his resilience in the face of life's challenges inspired all who knew him.
Joseph's enduring legacy of love is carried forward by his beloved wife, Jessica Funches; his children, Adrianna (Arie) and Derrick Funches; his sisters, Yolanda (with David and Ashley) and Sam Daniels (husband) of Arkansas, Rosalyn Funches(with Ratiyondre and Carmello) of Wisconsin, and Denise (with Mahogany, Jasmine, and Shun) and Antonio Wilson (husband) of Indiana; his brother, Willie D. Funches Jr. (with Akeeyla, Kreashun, and Karter) of Illinois; along with numerous great nieces and nephews who will forever treasure his memory.
As we gather to honor Joseph, may we find solace in the knowledge that he rests in peace, embraced by his Savior and reunited with his cherished parents. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in memory of Joseph's generous spirit.

Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
