Celebrating the Life of Joseph David Murphy Jr. Joseph David Murphy Jr., affectionately known to many as "Pops," passed away peacefully at his home on September 11, 2026, in the comforting company of his loyal best friend, Roscoe. Born on March 14, 1953, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Joseph lived a life rich in love, laughter, and music. Joseph was the beloved son of the late Joseph David Murphy Sr. and Leola Murphy. He was predeceased by his first wife, Paula (Scherb), his sisters Cheryl (Murphy) Brown and Misty (Murphy) Daniels, and brothers Jim Murphy and Bill Murphy. He is survived by his devoted wife, Vickie Gibbs Murphy, whom he married in 2005, and together they shared a beautiful journey filled with mutual love and respect. Joseph was a proud father to his daughters, Ashley L. (Murphy) Van Buren of Newark, Ohio, Tracey A. Murphy of Sylva, North Carolina, Shakira Knight of Terre Haute, Indiana, Katherine Landis of Searcy, Arkansas, and Brittany Whaley of Murfreesboro, Arkansas. He was a cherished father-in-law to Michael E. Van Buren and Chase Whaley, and a loving grandfather to seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his brothers, Mike Murphy and Bobby Murphy of Indiana, and his sisters Peg Murphy, Barb Harshey of Indiana, and Debbie Eaton of Montana, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will fondly remember his infectious laughter and kind spirit. Joseph's educational journey took him through Washington High School in Indianapolis and Ivy Tech. His career was marked by dedication and hard work, notably at Civitan, where he made lasting friendships and contributed generously to his community. A man of many talents, Joseph was always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it was fixing a car or tending to a friend's lawn. Music was a profound part of Joseph's life. As a talented musician, he was a member of several bands and shared his gift with many churches in the area. His love for music was only surpassed by his devotion to his family. Whether it was an evening spent playing his guitar or a long phone conversation filled with laughter and stories, he cherished every moment with his loved ones. An avid outdoorsman, Joseph found joy in nature, often spending time with his daughters and grandchildren under the open sky. He was known for his skillful tinkering with mechanical gadgets and his appreciation for a good joke. A dedicated sports fan, he enjoyed watching basketball and football but was truly captivated by the allure of a classic western film. A service to honor and celebrate Joseph's remarkable life will be held on September 26, 2026, at 2:01 PM at the Woodland Hills Community Center, located at 120 Private Rd 3338, Clarksville, Arkansas, 72830. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a man whose life was a testament to love, kindness, and the joy of music. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made in Joseph's memory to a charity of your choice. The family and friends of Joseph extend their heartfelt gratitude for your thoughts and prayers during this time. His legacy of warmth, laughter, and music will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
