Columbia, South Carolina—Joseph Craig Reynolds, Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on July 21, 1945, in Columbia, South Carolina, he was the beloved son of T.O. Reynolds, Jr. and Catherine Yates Reynolds. Joe's life was a testament to the power of dedication, kindness, and the unwavering love he extended to all who knew him.
Joe was a proud son of Columbia, embodying the spirit of his hometown in every aspect of his life. He received his early education at Hand Middle School and graduated with the class of 1963 from Dreher High School. His academic journey continued at The University of South Carolina, where he earned a bachelor's degree in 1967. Joe was not only a member but also the President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, where he forged lifelong friendships with his fraternity brothers.
His career in banking spanned over five decades, during which he dedicated himself to supporting the residents and businesses of Columbia. Joe's commitment to his work was paralleled by his service on various banking associations and his membership on the University of South Carolina Development Board. His professional life was marked by integrity and a genuine desire to uplift his community.
A man of faith, Joe was a devoted member of Shandon United Methodist Church. His social life was enriched by his memberships at the Forest Lake Club and the Camellia Ball, where he enjoyed countless gatherings with friends and family.
Joe's passions extended far beyond his professional endeavors. He was a dedicated father and grandfather, always present to support his family's pursuits. The Blue Ridge Mountains held a special place in his heart, offering him solace and joy. An ardent supporter of University of South Carolina Athletics, Joe never missed an opportunity to cheer on his beloved Gamecocks. His yearly trips with his closest friends, affectionately known as The Groupers, were a source of laughter and cherished memories.
Joe leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will forever be remembered by his wife, Nancy Franklin Reynolds; his sons, Yates Reynolds (Jenny) and Joe Yates (Julianne) of Columbia, SC; his stepdaughters, Liz Hughey (Nate) and Caroline Kelm (Dax) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and his grandchildren, Frazier Reynolds, Copeland Reynolds, Julia Blair Reynolds, Ford Reynolds, Anne Reynolds, Price Lyday, Tag Kelm, and Rivers Kelm. His brother, David Osbourne Reynolds (Christie) of Benton, Kansas, also survives him, along with numerous friends who became family over the years.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Susie Solomon and the entire staff of Wildewood Downs for their compassionate care of Joe during his final days.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor the remarkable man he was and the indelible mark he left on their hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of one’s choice in Joe's memory, reflecting his spirit of generosity and community service.
As we bid farewell to Joe, we carry forward his legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering support. His memory will forever remain a guiding light, reminding us of the beauty of a life well-lived.
