In Loving Memory of Josefina Hernandez Hurtado It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Josefina Hernandez Hurtado, on April 3, 2026, at the age of 96. She left this world gently, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home, a testament to the deep bonds she cherished throughout her life. Josefina was born on March 19, 1930, in the sun-kissed town of Santa Monica, California, to Ramon and Dolores Hernandez. From a young age, she carried the warmth of her birthplace in her heart, enriching the lives of everyone she encountered with her radiant spirit. In 1946, she married the love of her life, Luis Hurtado Diaz de Leon, embarking on a journey of love and partnership that spanned an incredible 69 years until his passing. Together, they built a family grounded in love, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to one another. Josefina was blessed with a large and loving family. Her legacy lives on through her surviving children: Francisco Hurtado and his wife Beatrice, Gloria Hurtado Prado and her husband Lucas, Oscar R. Hurtado and his wife Esperanza, Dolores F. Rodriguez, Angelica H. Horne and her husband Ken, and Miguel Angel Hurtado and his wife Sonia. Her life was further enriched by the joy of her 20 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, each a testament to her enduring love and guidance. Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, Luis, her sister Irene Hernandez, her son Jose Luis Hurtado, and her daughter Guadalupe Garcia. Though their absence has been deeply felt, their memories remain a cherished part of her legacy. Josefina found fulfillment in her work as a seamstress in a sewing factory, where her skillful hands crafted not only garments but also stories and friendships that lasted a lifetime. Her passion for knitting, sewing, embroidery, puzzles, and word search puzzles were just some of the ways she expressed her creativity and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Known for her quick wit and stubborn ways, Josefina was a beacon of laughter and smiles. Her infectious joy and indomitable spirit left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her home was a haven of warmth, laughter, and love—a place where everyone felt welcome and cherished. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Alejandra Castro, Josefina's devoted caregiver for nine years, for her compassion and dedication. They also wish to thank Kaiser Hospice and Saint John's Hospital for their unwavering support and care. As we celebrate Josefina's remarkable life, we find comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us, reminding us of the power of love, resilience, and family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Josefina’s memory to a charity of your choice, as a way of honoring her generous and loving spirit. Josefina Hernandez Hurtado leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and strength, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
