It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Josefa Cortes, who departed this world peacefully, cradled by the warmth of her family, on May 22, 2026. Born on July 25, 1941, in the enchanting town of Aguada, Puerto Rico, Josefa was a luminary of compassion and resilience, traits she carried with grace throughout her 84 years of life. Josefa was the cherished daughter of Manuel Cortes and Maria Perez, who instilled in her the values of kindness and strength that she so effortlessly imparted to those around her. Her life's journey was marked by love and devotion to her family, whom she held dear above all else. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Jose Lopez, a loss she bore with quiet dignity, and her parents, who she has now joyfully rejoined. A devoted mother, Josefa is survived by her sons Adalberto Lopez, Angel L. Lopez and his wife Carmen Laguer, Julio Lopez, and Jaime Lopez, as well as her daughters Julia Lopez and Lourdes Lopez. She leaves behind her daughters-in-law Carmen Laguer and Magdalena Ramos, who were like daughters to her, embraced fully into her heart and home. Her legacy is carried forward by her 14 grandchildren: Tamara, Cadmiel Lopez, Aisha Lopez, Kamila Denard and her husband Paul, Ricky and Yesenia Cortes, David Feliciano, Angelika, Dominick and Aracely Lopez, Amalia Ruiz, Jimmy Lopez, Jasmine, and Josue Lopez. These grandchildren were her pride and joy, each a unique reflection of her love. Moreover, her spirit lives on in her 17 great-grandchildren, who will grow up hearing stories of her kindness and warmth. Josefa was a beacon of love, known for her caring and kind spirit that touched everyone she encountered. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. She possessed an unwavering strength and a gentle wisdom that guided her family through life's challenges with grace and support. In accordance with her wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held, where her family will gather to celebrate her life and honor her everlasting impact. During these tender moments, they will reflect on the countless ways she enriched their lives, sharing stories and memories that will forever keep her spirit alive in their hearts. The family wishes to extend special thanks to all the friends and relatives who stood by Josefa, offering their unwavering support. They are especially grateful to Angela Holguin, whose dedication and care provided immense comfort during Josefa's final days. As we bid farewell to Josefa Cortes, we remember her not with sadness, but with gratitude for the love she shared and the lives she touched. Her legacy of compassion and strength will continue to inspire all who knew her. Rest in peace, dear Josefa, knowing your life was a testament to love and resilience, and that your memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing you.
