Jose "Luciano" Roybal

December 14, 1935 — May 17, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Jose "Luciano" Roybal, who departed from this world on May 17, 2026, at the age of 90. Surrounded by the love of his family in the comfort of his cherished home, Luciano left this earthly life in El Rancho, New Mexico, the very place where his remarkable journey began on December 14, 1935. Luciano was born to Aaron and Veronica Roybal, who, along with Pedro and Eliza Herrera, shaped a foundation of love and resilience that he carried forward throughout his life. He was predeceased by his parents, beloved children Lois, Karl, Louie, and Janet, his siblings Pablo, Jane (and her husband Clyde), Donelia, Abel, Lillian, Eloy, Eufemia, as well as several of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and dearest friends Martin Roybal and Leroy Duran. In 1958, Luciano found his lifelong partner and soulmate in Bernie Mary Roybal. Together, they embarked on a journey of love and devotion that spanned 68 years, marked by the joys of raising 11 children in a home filled with laughter and warmth. Their union was a testament to enduring love and commitment, setting an example for their large family. An alumnus of Pojoaque Valley High School and New Mexico State University, Luciano was not only a learned man but also a skilled craftsman. Known far and wide for his exceptional carpentry, Luciano's hands built more than structures; they built dreams and created spaces where memories were made. His commitment to his craft was rivaled only by the dedication he had for his family. Luciano is survived by his beloved wife, Bernie Mary; his children Lucille (Charles), Bernadette (Harold), Jacqueline (Ivan), Anna (Tommy), Moses (Jasmine), Beverly, Larry (Alma), Floyd, Manuel, Esther, Julia, Nora, Gloria, David, and Ruth. His legacy continues through his 35 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, each of whom carry forward his spirit and the lessons he imparted. He is also fondly remembered by Robert Romero, a cherished member of the family. Family was the cornerstone of Luciano's life, and he found immense joy in the gatherings that brought everyone together. His home was a sanctuary of love, filled with the aroma of his favorite meals and the sound of laughter echoing through the halls. Luciano's life was a testament to love, faith, and hard work. He has left an indelible mark on those who were fortunate to know him, and his legacy will be a guiding light for generations to come. The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Luciano's life and to remember the warmth and kindness that he so freely gave. As we bid farewell to a beloved father, husband, brother, grandfather, and friend, we find solace in knowing that Luciano's spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched. May he rest in eternal peace, reunited with those he loved who went before him.
