It is with profound sadness and love that we announce the passing of our beloved Jose Ivan Colon Rodriguez, who left this world on April 4, 2026, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's and dementia. Jose, known for his unwavering strength and gentle heart, was born on September 7, 1960, in San Germán, Puerto Rico, to Felipe Colon and Eumelia Rodriguez Acebedo.
Jose's journey through life was marked by his dedication to family, his community, and his country. He proudly served in the Puerto Rican army, embodying the values of honor and duty that he would carry with him throughout his life. In his early thirties, Jose made a brave decision to move his family from Puerto Rico to Midland, Texas, carving out a new life and ensuring a bright future for those he loved.
For 40 beautiful years, Jose shared his life with his cherished wife, Melba Ayala. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership, having begun when Jose was 30 and Melba was 27. Together, they built a family filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Jose is survived by his devoted wife, Melba, and their children: Wanda Sanchez, Johanna Sanchez, Sharon Sanchez, Jorge Sanchez, Johanny Sanchez, Emmanuel Sanchez, Rafael Sanchez, and Luis Sanchez.
A grandfather of 34 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, Jose found immense joy and fulfillment in his role as a grandparent. His home was a place of warmth and happiness, where he shared his passion for Bruce Lee's kung-fu movies and the thrill of watching WWE. The laughter and stories shared in his living room will forever be treasured by those who knew him.
Jose was predeceased by his parents, Felipe and Eumelia, his sister Iris M Colon Rodriguez, and his daughter Maria Aurora Ayala Sanchez. Their memories were always cherished and lived on through Jose's stories and the love he showed to his family.
Throughout his life, Jose demonstrated a remarkable work ethic and an unyielding commitment to providing for his family. His legacy is one of resilience, kindness, and the profound impact he had on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A service to honor Jose's life will be held on April 13, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Heavenly Gate Funeral Home, located at 405 N Terrell. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate the life of a man who was truly a hero to many.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who knew Jose and enriched his life. Your presence, love, and support mean the world to us as we honor his memory and say our goodbyes. Fly high, our angel, and know that you are forever loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember Jose through acts of kindness and by cherishing your own families, as he did so beautifully throughout his life.
Rest in peace, dear Jose. Your legacy of love and strength will continue to guide us, and your spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
