Jorge Acevedo

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jorge Acevedo, who left this world on August 14, 2026, at the age of 51. Born on November 22, 1974, in Los Angeles, Jorge touched the lives of many with his boundless empathy, passion for the environment, and unwavering dedication to improving his community. Jorge was the beloved son of Manuel and Carmen Acevedo, who instilled in him the values of compassion and perseverance. Preceded in death by his grandmother Carmen, uncles Louis, Ramon, and Robert, as well as his cousin Roberto, Jorge's memory will be cherished by his loving family: his devoted wife of 11 years, Sierra, and their children, Andrew, Anthony, and Lailah. He is also survived by his siblings, Maribel, Rebeca, and Jackie, along with his nieces and nephews, Roger, Sophia, Esme, Abby, and Citlali. A graduate of North Hollywood Zoological Magnet School in 1993, Jorge went on to attend Cal Poly, where he earned a degree in Forestry with an emphasis in hydrology. His passion for the environment led him to a fulfilling career with the Forest Service, where he bravely fought fires in southern Oregon. Jorge later transitioned to a career in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Sacramento, making significant contributions to projects at esteemed consulting firms such as URS and ERM, and notably, the Sacramento Railyards project. From 2015 to 2026, Jorge proudly served the city of Sacramento, dedicating himself to public service and striving to enhance the lives of those in his community. Jorge's interests were as diverse as they were profound. An avid bike rider, he had a knack for restoring and rejuvenating old mechanical wonders, whether they were cars, bikes, or computers. His ability to breathe new life into forgotten items was matched only by his incredible problem-solving skills and relentless pursuit of solutions. Above all, Jorge was known for his deep empathy and tenacity. He never hesitated to offer help to those in need, often sharing whatever he could with strangers and friends alike. His family and friends were consistently uplifted by his protective and caring nature. A celebration of Jorge's life will be held on September 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM at William B. Pond, located at 5700 Arden Way, Sacramento, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to World Central Kitchen, an organization dear to Jorge's heart, in honor of his enduring legacy of kindness and service. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Jorge's extended network of friends and family for their unwavering support and love. As we remember Jorge, let us all strive to embody his spirit of compassion and leave the world a bit better than we found it.
