April 28, 1926 — March 19, 2026

Jonathan Marsh, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Columbia, South Carolina, on March 19, 2026. He was 99 years old, having been born on April 28, 1926, to the late Johnathan and Mary Marsh. Jonathan’s long life was marked by love, humor, and dedication. His passing was gentle, surrounded by the warmth and support of his cherished wife of 60 years, Esther Marsh (née Jones). Their journey together began on January 1st, 1966, when they wed in South Carolina, embarking on a partnership that was both a testament to enduring love and a cornerstone to those who knew them. Jonathan’s early years were shaped by his service to his country. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he enlisted during the fervent days of World War II on July 14, 1944. His service was marked by dedication, and he carried the values of honor and duty with him long after his honorable discharge on August 1st, 1948. Following his military service, Jonathan found joy and purpose in the simple, honest work of a farm laborer. His hands, seasoned by the earth, contributed to the growth and nourishment of his community, and he found great satisfaction in the fruits of his labor. But Jonathan was more than his work; he was an avid fisherman, often finding peace and solitude on the water. His prowess in the kitchen was legendary, known among family and friends as a fantastic cook whose meals were prepared with love and shared with generosity. Jonathan was a man of many talents and interests. A natural comedian, he had an innate ability to lighten any mood with a well-timed joke. He was also an exceptional dancer, his movements as graceful on the floor as his spirit was in life. His humor, generosity, and kindness were the hallmarks of his character, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Preceding Jonathan in death were his parents, John and Mary, his brothers Richard and Gregory, his sister Effie, and his only son, Tommy Marsh. His memory will be carried forward by his devoted wife, Esther, his loving daughter, Elizabeth Marsh, and his five grandchildren: Jennifer Hightower, Jay’Sean Marsh, Tiffany Marsh, De’Jaun Marsh, and Cypress Marsh. His legacy also lives on through his seven great-grandchildren, who will grow up hearing stories of their remarkable ancestor. A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Jonathan’s life and his many contributions to his family and community. His family takes comfort in knowing he rests peacefully, surrounded by the love he so generously gave throughout his life. Jonathan Marsh’s life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and resilience. His spirit will forever be etched in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
