It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Jonathan Lee Abel, who peacefully departed this life on May 10, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of his devoted wife and best friend, Michelle. Jon, as he was affectionately known, was born on July 10, 1968, in Brandywine, Pennsylvania, and lived a life imbued with warmth, humor, and a boundless curiosity that touched everyone he met. Jon was the beloved son of Gene P. Abel, and his stepmother Susan, and the late Lucy (Brinker) Dunn, who predeceased him. He was a loving husband to Michelle Foti Abel, with whom he shared 22 beautiful years of marriage since their union on May 21, 2004. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising a family that was at the heart of Jon's world. He is survived by his devoted son, Joshua Abel, and his dear daughter, Autumn (Russell) Erasmus, and her husband, Mark Erasmus, who brought him much joy and pride. Jon also leaves behind his cherished stepson, Joseph Chirico. His family extended further with his brother, Robert Abel, his step-siblings, Brian Dunn and his wife Tracey, Elwood Dunn and his wife Cindy, and his step-sister Nancy and her husband Steve. Jon's family also embraced Susan's sons, Sean Spellane and Shelby Spellane. He was predeceased by his son, Tyler Abel, and brother, Paul Abel, whose memories he held dear. Jon's grandparents, Paul Abel and Lorraine Abel, also preceded him, leaving a legacy of love and strength. He was blessed with lifetime friendships with Pickett Russell and Wally Russell, whose bonds were as enduring as they were meaningful. A proud alumnus of Shawnee High School and Camden County College, Jon built a successful career in computer networking and IT support, dedicating 16 years to Menark Technologies. His professional life was marked by a commitment to excellence and an insatiable desire to learn, qualities that also defined his personal endeavors. Jon's passions were as diverse as the stars he loved to gaze upon. Whether he was camping and kayaking with his children, tending to his garden with an eye for the unusual, or capturing the night sky with his SeeStar telescope, Jon embraced life with an infectious enthusiasm. He found solace in the simple joy of sitting in his backyard with his beloved dogs, Cookie and Ellie, and the late Daisy, watching birds and flying drones with the expert hand of a licensed pilot. Known for his quick wit and sharp intelligence, Jon possessed a gift for making those around him laugh and think. His humor and curiosity left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. A service celebrating Jon's life will be held on June 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Apostle Lutheran Church. The family invites those who wish to honor Jon's memory to consider making a donation to the family GoFundMe at gofund.me/8d15a8915. They would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Samaritan Hospice for their care and support during Jon's final days. As we remember Jon, let us do so with the same joy and wonder with which he lived his life. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those he loved and inspired.
