Jolonda Gayle (McQueen) McGinley

September 24, 1935 — June 11, 2026

In the quiet morning hours of June 11, 2026, Jolonda Gayle (McQueen) McGinley, a cherished beacon of love and kindness, peacefully departed from this world at the age of 90. Born on September 24, 1935, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jolonda graced us with her presence, her warmth, and her boundless compassion. She was the beloved daughter of the late Malcolm J. McQueen and Alberta Elizabeth (McCurdy) McQueen, who undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms in heaven. Jolonda lived a life rich in love and inspiration, marked by her dedication to family, faith, and community. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Malcolm J. McQueen, Jr., her sisters, Anita and another sister whose memory she cherished, her husband, Patrick Thomas McGinley, and her sons, Michael Lane Peterson and Paul Warren Peterson. Yet, she leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving family: her devoted son, Steven Peterson, and his wife, Carol; her beloved daughter, Lisa Peterson, and her husband, Roger Brandeberry; her cherished son, David Peterson; her brother, Butch McQueen, who shared many joyful memories with her; her grandson, Gregory Peterson; her granddaughters, Kimberley, Laura Ann Easter, and Mary Michelle Easter; and her great-grandson, Riley Devon Easter Kenner. Jolonda's heart overflowed with affection for her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy. Jolonda's journey of love began when she married Jerry Wade Peterson in Oklahoma City. Together, they raised five wonderful children. Though their paths eventually diverged, her heart remained steadfast, and on June 11, 1998, Jolonda found love anew with Patrick Thomas McGinley in Annapolis, MD. Their marriage, spanning 16 beautiful years, was a testament to the enduring nature of true love until Patrick's passing in 2014. A proud graduate of St. Mary's High School in Oklahoma City, Jolonda's professional life was as varied and vibrant as her personal one. She worked in retail management for many years, skillfully balancing her career with her roles as a fitness trainer and tap dance instructor for children. Her passion for creativity extended into her personal life as well. An accomplished seamstress, Jolonda crafted exquisite quilts, clothing, dolls, and doll clothes for her children and grandchildren, each stitch woven with love. Her faith as a devout Catholic was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and nurturing her soul. Jolonda found solace and joy in her garden, where she tended to her plants with the same care she extended to those around her. Her beloved pet cat, Shadow, was a constant companion, providing comfort and companionship. Jolonda was known for her affectionate nature, sociability, and kindness. Her gentle words and warm presence could put anyone at ease, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. In accordance with her wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Jolonda's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Catholic Charities of Pennsylvania, reflecting Jolonda's lifelong commitment to helping others. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Laurel Center in Hamburg, PA, for their kind and attentive care during Jolonda's final days. As they bid farewell to a remarkable woman, they take comfort in knowing that she now walks with the angels, her spirit forever watching over them. Jolonda Gayle (McQueen) McGinley will be profoundly missed, yet her memory will forever remain a source of comfort and inspiration to those who loved her.
