It is with profound sadness and yet enduring love that we announce the passing of Johnny "Blade" Butler, a cherished son, father, brother, and friend, who left us on May 20, 2026, at the age of 50. Johnny was born on June 16, 1975, in the heart of Chicago, Illinois, to Elaine Butler and Johnny Butler Sr., and from the very beginning, his life was a beacon of energy and resilience. Johnny's life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and an indomitable spirit. He spent his formative years in Chicago, attending King Elementary School, and later graduating from Manley High School in the Class of 1993. Johnny wassports savy at a young age under the guidence of Coach Mach and Book at altgeld park and was a terror for opponents at western park as a matter of fact any park. Johnny was good he still played at various mens leauger where he would renew friendships and rivalry old and new During his high school years, Johnny was a standout athlete, excelling in basketball and football, sports that remained lifelong passions. A man of many talents and interests, Johnny worked various jobs throughout his life, always with a smile and an unwavering work ethic. He believed in the value of hard work and took pride in having a few dollars in his pocket, not just for himself but to share with those he loved. His adventurous spirit extended beyond his career as he found joy in the simple pleasures of life, playing basketball and football with friends and family. Johnny's love for his family was boundless and evident in every interaction. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Jonathan, whom he dearly missed. Yet, he found immense joy and pride in his surviving family: his devoted mother, Elaine, and father, Johnny Sr.; his beloved wife, Betsy Washington; and his cherished stepdaughter, Ndea. Johnny leaves behind a legacy of love through his nine children: Johnny Butler Jr., Deonta Jones, Jonathan Butler, Ja`Quan Butler, A`Johna King, Johniqua Butler, Felicia Hernandez, Jakee Butler, and Janiya Butler. His love extended to his nine grandchildren: Johnny Butler Jr., Ja`Quan Butler Jr., Maurice Thomas, Malaya Thomas, Narmere Thomas, Jionni Butler, Jayce Butler, Jaycen Butler, and Jr., each of whom held a special place in his heart. Johnny's life was a testament to the power of gratitude and steadfastness. He embraced life with a thankful heart, unwavering in his beliefs, and his presence at family gatherings was a source of joy and unity. His laughter, wisdom, and love for life were infectious and left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege to know him. In addition to his immediate family, Johnny is survived by his twin brothers, Marrio and Markus Butler, along with a host of cousins, uncles, aunties, best friends, nephews, nieces, and dear friends who enriched his life and shared in his journey. A celebration of Johnny's life will take place on June 6, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Zoe Life Ministries International, located at 5151 W Madison St, Chicago, IL 60644. All who knew and loved Johnny are welcome to join us in honoring his memory and sharing in the enduring legacy of his life.
