July 24, 1950 — May 17, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Johnnie Sampson, who departed this life on May 17, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on July 24, 1950, in the warm embrace of Smithville, Texas, Johnnie was the cherished son of the late George and Willie B. Sampson. He was preceded in death by his dear parents, as well as his sisters Willie Alice Bledsoe, Bobbie Sampson, Yvonne Sampson, and brother Robert Sampson. Johnnie's life was a testament to selfless service, enduring love, and unwavering faith. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Sylvia Sampson, and his son, Johnnie Sampson Jr (affectionately known as Shon). The light of his life in his later years was his special granddaughter, Janiya Dampy, whom he adored beyond measure. He is also survived by his sister Glenda, and brothers George Sampson Jr. and Ken Sampson, along with a host of extended family and friends who will forever cherish his memory. A man of remarkable dedication, Johnnie proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971, an experience that helped shape his character and commitment to his community. Following his military service, he pursued his education with passion, graduating from Smithville High School in 1969 and later earning an Associate Degree from El Centro College in 1984. Johnnie's professional journey led him to a distinguished career with the City of Dallas, where he held the position of Sergeant over Security Officers. He also served with distinction as a Sergeant with the DISD Police, where his leadership and integrity earned him the respect of colleagues and community alike. Beyond his professional achievements, Johnnie was a pillar of strength and kindness to all who knew him. A faithful member of the Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas, he remained actively involved in his church community until his passing. His kindness and generosity were well-known, traits that he shared abundantly with family and friends. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to VNA Hospice Care for their compassionate assistance, to church members who offered their love and support, and to Sister Foster, a special friend and member of the Church of Christ, whose presence brought comfort and peace. A celebration of Johnnie's life will be held on May 29, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home, located in Dallas, Texas. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Johnnie are invited to gather in remembrance and thanksgiving for a life lived with grace and love. In honoring Johnnie's memory, let us remember his gentle spirit, his unwavering loyalty, and the love he so generously shared. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him. May he rest in eternal peace, forever cherished and remembered.
