In loving memory, we celebrate the life of Johnnie Sampson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on May 17, 2026. Born on July 24, 1950, in the warm embrace of Smithville, Texas, Johnnie was the beloved son of the late George and Willie B. Sampson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his devoted sisters Willie Alice Bledsoe, Bobbie Sampson, Yvonne Sampson, and his brother Robert Sampson. Johnnie's life was a testament of love, service, and dedication. He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Sampson, who stood by his side through life's every season. Together, they nurtured a family centered around love and mutual respect. His son, Johnnie Sampson Jr., affectionately known as Shon, was a source of immense pride. The light of his later years was his special granddaughter, Janiya Dampy, who brought him endless joy. Johnnie's familial bonds extended to his dear sister Glenda, and brothers George Sampson Jr. and Ken Sampson, who survive him and hold his memory in their hearts. A proud graduate of Smithville High School in 1969, Johnnie's pursuit of knowledge led him to El Centro College, where he earned an Associate Degree in 1984. His commitment to service was exemplified in his time with the US Army from 1969 to 1971, where he served with honor and distinction. Johnnie's professional life was marked by his dedication and leadership, working tirelessly as a Sergeant over Security Officers for the City of Dallas and as a DISD Police Sergeant. His colleagues remember him for his unwavering integrity and the respect he commanded through his humble leadership. A man of deep faith, Johnnie was a steadfast and faithful member of the Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas. His spiritual community was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with strength and comfort until his passing. Known for his kindness and generosity with family and friends, Johnnie touched the lives of many with his gentle spirit and unwavering devotion. A celebration of Johnnie's life will be held on May 29, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and to honor the legacy of a man who gave so much to those around him. The Sampson family extends their heartfelt gratitude to VNA Hospice Care, the church members who faithfully called to check on him, and to Sister Foster, a special friend from the Church of Christ, whose love and support were invaluable during Johnnie's journey. Johnnie Sampson's life was a beautiful example of love, service, and faith. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
