Johnnie Sampson, a beloved husband, brother, and friend, peacefully departed this life on May 17, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on July 24, 1950, in the warm and welcoming town of Smithville, Texas, Johnnie was a cherished son of the late George and Willie B. Sampson. His early years in Smithville were filled with the love and guidance of his parents and siblings, who instilled in him the values of kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to family and community. Johnnie's journey through life was marked by his commitment to service and education. After graduating from Smithville High School in 1969, he answered the call to serve his country with honor in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971. Upon returning from military service, he pursued higher education and earned an Associate Degree from El Centro College in 1984. His professional career was characterized by dedication and leadership, as he worked diligently for the City of Dallas as a Sergeant over Security Officers and later for DISD as a Police Sergeant. Throughout his career, Johnnie was known for his fairness, integrity, and tireless work ethic, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and community. A man of deep faith, Johnnie was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas, where he found spiritual fulfillment and lifelong friendships. His involvement in the church community was not just a testament to his faith, but also a reflection of his compassionate nature and his desire to help others. Johnnie's family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Sylvia Sampson, who stood by his side through every joy and challenge. He is survived by his sister Glenda and brothers George Sampson Jr. and Ken Sampson, who will forever cherish the memories of their time spent together. Johnnie also leaves behind a precious legacy in his grandchild, who was the light of his later years. Preceding Johnnie in death were his parents, George and Willie B. Sampson, as well as his sisters Willie Alice Bledsoe, Bobbie Sampson, and Yvonne Sampson, and his brother, Robert Sampson. Their loving spirits undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms into the eternal embrace. A celebration of Johnnie's life will be held on May 29, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and honor the remarkable life he led. The Sampson family extends their heartfelt gratitude to VNA Hospice Care for their compassionate support, as well as to the church members who consistently reached out with kindness and concern during Johnnie's final days. A special note of thanks goes to Sister Foster, a dear friend and fellow church member, whose friendship brought comfort and companionship. Johnnie Sampson's life was a testament to love, service, and unwavering faith. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace, wrapped in the warmth of the memories he created and the lives he touched.
