Johnnie Ravenel

March 10, 1958 — May 12, 2026

Johnnie Ravenel, a cherished father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, joined the heavenly choir on the morning of May 12, 2026, at the age of 68. Born on March 10, 1958, in the close-knit community of Johns Island, South Carolina, Johnnie was the beloved son of Johnnie and Clementine Ravenel, who have welcomed him into their eternal embrace. Johnnie’s life was a testament to the love of family, the pursuit of dreams, and the joy of simple pleasures. He graduated from Saint John’s High School on Johns Island, carrying forward the values and education instilled in him by his community. He went on to build a successful career, owning and operating construction and business consulting companies. His work was not just about earning a living but also about lifting others and contributing to the growth and prosperity of those around him. A devoted member of St. John's AME Church, Johnnie found strength and solace in his faith. It was a place where he nurtured his spirit and cultivated friendships that lasted a lifetime. Johnnie’s charming smile and vibrant personality were well-known, as was his distinctive style, often seen in his favorite Ralph Lauren polo shirts. His love for music, especially the soulful melodies of Luther Vandross, was a constant companion throughout his life. Johnnie's passion for life extended beyond his professional pursuits. He was an avid traveler and sports enthusiast, finding joy in exploring new places and cheering for his favorite teams. Yet, his greatest happiness stemmed from family gatherings, where laughter, stories, and love were shared in abundance. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his surviving family: the mother of his children, his siblings, children, 17 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, and a host of loving friends and extended family. His presence in their lives was a source of joy, guidance, and unwavering support. Though preceded in death by his parents and many dear family members and friends, Johnnie's spirit will continue to light the way for those who knew and loved him. His life was a testament to the power of love, community, and the enduring bonds of family. A memorial service to celebrate Johnnie's life will be held on May 29, 2026, at 12:00 noon at St. John's AME Church. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation for the thoughts and prayers offered during this difficult time. Special thanks to the compassionate nurses, techs, and doctors at Riverside Rehabilitation and MUSC Hospital for their dedicated care of Johnnie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. John's AME Church in Johnnie’s honor, ensuring that his legacy of faith and community service continues to inspire and uplift others. As we say goodbye to a remarkable man who touched the lives of many, we hold onto the love he shared and the memories that will forever remain in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Johnnie, as you walk in the light with your parents and loved ones.
