It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of our beloved Johnnie Nelson McLaughlin, who departed this world on March 27, 2026, at the age of 62. Born on November 9, 1963, in the humble and nurturing community of Caswell, North Carolina, Johnnie was a beacon of light and strength to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Johnnie was the cherished son of Clarie Abbott-McLaughlin and the late Timothy McLaughlin. His formative years in Caswell were filled with the love of family and the values instilled by his parents, shaping him into the compassionate and dedicated man he became. A man of integrity and resilience, Johnnie was a pillar of his community and family, always ready with a warm smile or a helping hand.
Johnnie is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Barbara L. McLaughlin, whose unwavering support and partnership were the bedrock of their life together. His legacy lives on through his children, each of whom carry a piece of his spirit and wisdom: Eureka McKinnon (Jovon), Mario McLaughlin (Mary-Ann), LaToya Silva (Tristan), Rashard McLaughlin, and Phillip McLaughlin (Daphne).
He was a proud and doting grandfather to eight grandchildren and a great-grandfather to four, who were his pride and joy. Each visit was filled with laughter, stories, and the timeless wisdom he passed down to the generations that followed. His influence will ripple through their lives, guiding them as they grow.
Johnnie was predeceased by his father, Timothy McLaughlin, his dear brother Stanley McLaughlin, his cherished nephews Michael and Stedman McLaughlin, his beloved grandson Shyheim Thornton, and his former wife Sharon D. McLaughlin. Their memories were a source of strength and inspiration for him, and he cherished them deeply.
He is survived by his loving mother, Clarie Abbott-McLaughlin, and his siblings, who were his lifelong companions and confidants: Vernell Simpson (Benjamin), Phyllis McLaughlin, Tamara McLaughlin, and Melinda McLaughlin, along with his brothers Tim McLaughlin and Stafford McLaughlin (Veronica). Johnnie also leaves behind his stepdaughters, Meka Poole and Emony Poole, and an extended family of nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.

He will be fondly remembered for his tireless work ethic, his commitment to helping others, and his ability to bring joy to those around him.
As we bid farewell to Johnnie, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life that inspired and uplifted. His spirit will forever remain with us, guiding us with his love and wisdom. In our hearts, he will always be present—a reminder of the impact one person can make through a life dedicated to caring for others.
A memorial service to honor Johnnie Nelson McLaughlin will be held in the coming days, where family and friends will gather to share memories, celebrate his life, and find comfort in each other’s company. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity close to Johnnie’s heart, reflecting his lifelong commitment to serving others.
Rest in peace, dear Johnnie. Your journey on this earth may have ended, but your legacy will endure in the hearts and lives of those you touched.
