It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Johnnie Mae McGowan, who departed this world on July 13, 2026, at the age of 60, after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 29, 1965, in the warmth of Arkansas, Johnnie Mae was a beacon of love, strength, and resilience to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Johnnie Mae was the beloved daughter of the late Johnny McGowan and Johnnie Mae McGowan. She was cherished deeply by her family and predeceased by many loved ones, including her devoted great-grandmother, Helen Mannin, her siblings Dorothy Jean McBride, Michael McGowan, and Charles McGowan, her nephew Anthony McBride, and her brother Jim Newcomer. Her spirit and legacy continue through her surviving family members, who carry forward her love and the values she instilled. She is survived by her beloved daughter Wahkenna McGowan, who was the light of her life. Her spirit also lives on in her cherished grandchildren: Makiya White, Marquan McGowan, and Journie White, as well as her great-grandchild. Johnnie Mae's love and guidance will forever be remembered by her siblings, Barbara, and her dear friends, Rhonda Young and Kimberly Peters, who stood by her side through life's joys and challenges. Johnnie Mae's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family, her kindness, and her generous spirit. She was a nurturing mother, a proud grandmother, and a loyal friend. Her laughter was infectious, and her warmth was felt by all who had the pleasure of crossing her path. She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. Her surviving family members, Michael and his wife Nicole McGowan, Teonna and her wife Lauren, Dian and her husband Frank Tabon, and James and his wife Shaneca McGowan, will hold her memory close to their hearts. In honor of her life and the love she spread, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of one's choice, reflecting the spirit of generosity that Johnnie Mae embodied throughout her life. Johnnie Mae McGowan's life may have ended, but her legacy as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed, but her love and spirit will remain with us forever.
