September 15, 1972 — October 14, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of "Rudy" Johnnie Lee Cates, a beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend. Though his time here was cut short, the love he gave and the memories he left behind will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him. Johnnie was a simple man who found happiness in the outdoors, fishing, and working with his hands. He loved being outside and enjoyed the things in life that money couldn't buy. He had a heart bigger than the world, and even when he didn't have much himself, he would give anyone the shirt off his back. That was just who he was someone who would help others without hesitation and give what he could, no matter how little he had. To his daughter, he was Dad the person who called every single day. Those daily calls may have seemed like a small part of life, but they were a reminder of his love and the bond they shared. It is often the little things we miss the most, and those calls will forever hold a special place in her heart. Johnnie leaves behind a family who loved him dearly and will carry his memory with them always. Though Johnnie may no longer be here for those daily phone calls, fishing trips, and everyday moments, his love will never leave us. His hands may be at rest, but the things he built, the people he helped, and the love he gave will continue to tell his story. He will be remembered for his generous heart, his love of the outdoors, his willingness to help anyone in need, and the love he had for his family. Even in death he was able to donate to cancer and burn victims to further his giving anything and everything he had. You never know how much the little things mean until they become the memories you hold closest to your heart. Rest easy, Dad. Until we meet again, you will forever be loved, forever be missed, and never be forgotten.
