Johnnie Lee Carter

March 31, 1932 — October 18, 2026

Johnnie Lee Carter, a beloved father, community leader, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Arlington, Texas, on October 18, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on March 31, 1932, in the warm embrace of Louisiana, Johnnie spent his life enriching the communities he called home. Johnnie was the son of John and Mary Carter, who instilled in him the values of hard work, kindness, and dedication that would define his life. He completed his education in the public schools of Louisiana before embarking on a career that would span decades. In 1953, he married the love of his life, Vernesa, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage until her passing. Together, they raised a loving family, nurturing six children: Randy (Brenda), Vanzola, Torrie, Timothy (Felicia), Steve, and Johnathan, who survive him and continue to honor his legacy. For many years, Johnnie worked as a booth cleaner at General Motors, a role he approached with pride and diligence. But it was his contributions outside of his professional life that left a lasting impact. A true community figure in Pontiac, Michigan, Johnnie was instrumental in bringing the spirit and joy of the Juneteenth celebration to the city. His efforts in organizing this important event helped foster a sense of unity and pride among the residents of Pontiac, and his legacy in this regard will be remembered for generations. Johnnie was predeceased by his devoted wife Vernesa and his beloved parents. His life was a testament to the power of love, family, and community, and those who had the privilege of knowing him will forever cherish the warmth and wisdom he shared. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in memory of Johnnie's generous and giving spirit. As we bid farewell to Johnnie Lee Carter, we do so with gratitude for a life well-lived and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of those who knew him. His legacy of love, service, and community spirit will continue to inspire all who had the honor of sharing in his journey.
