Johnnie L. Smith

Johnnie was born September 28, 1939 to John Smith and Hester Smith (Cottner) in Springfield, Missouri. She was the second oldest of 6 children. She attended Wichita Public Schools. She worked many years as a private house keeper, as well as for many local hotel companies including the Marriot, until she retired in 2001. Johnnie enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and cooking. She loved watching her soap opera in the afternoon hours while drinking a cup of coffee and talking with her sisters over the phone. She was a big fan of Tyler Perry’s Madea, listening to worship music, and attending church. She was a faithful member of Triumphant Faith Center for 25 years. Johnnie is proceeded in death by her parents, John and Hester Smith, brother Willam Smith, sisters Sherile Thomas and Rosie Smith. She leaves to cherish her memory 3 children; Audrey Smith, Lorenzo Smith, and Vonda Smith. 7 grandchildren; Shawn William (Latrice), Michael Smith, Marcus Smith, Shawnta Smith, and Annette Mccoy (Rahson), DaSharion Jackson (Jamaal) and Ananda Smith. 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great- great grandchild. Johnnie was a woman of strong faith. She was a loving, giving, and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. She had no problem sharing words of wisdom as well as telling you what was on her mind, whether you liked it or not. Johnnie will be deeply missed, however; her life’s legacy, her strength and love will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
