Johnnie Hayes Oliver
October 26, 1943 — May 5, 2026
Johnnie Hayes Oliver, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on October 26, 1943, in the serene countryside of Trigg County, Kentucky, Johnnie was the cherished son of Robert W. Oliver and Hazel (Thomas) Oliver, who instilled in him values of hard work, compassion, and community service.
Johnnie married the love of his life, Joan Curling, on a snowy Valentine's Day in 1964, beginning a journey of love and partnership that would span over six decades. Together, they built a family grounded in love and mutual respect, becoming pillars of strength and joy for their son, John, and daughter-in-law, Cathy. They were blessed with two grandchildren, John Thomas Oliver and Rachel Perez, who adored their grandfather's stories and wisdom. The joy of family continued to grow with the arrival of four great-grandchildren: Haisley, Cady, Lynette, and R.J., each of whom brought a sparkle to Johnnie's eyes.
A proud graduate of Trigg County High School in 1961, Johnnie embarked on a career that took him from the "Bird Cage" at Fort Campbell to various military and governmental construction projects across the country. His work ethic and dedication were evident in every project, whether it was in Chicago's bustling cityscape or the sun-kissed shores of Key West, Florida. In 1991, Johnnie brought his wealth of experience back to Kentucky, founding Builder's Drywall, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit. He continued to nurture the business until his retirement in 2006, at which time Joan took the helm, followed by their son John in 2013.
Johnnie was not only a successful businessman but also a generous community supporter. His contributions to numerous charities and organizations in Trigg County were made quietly, but their impact was profound. He believed in giving back to the community that had given him so much.
Outside of his professional life, Johnnie was an avid fisherman and a proud member of the Cadiz Bass Club. He relished the peaceful solitude of the water, where he often found solace and joy. Alongside Joan, he was an enthusiastic collector of American Brilliant Cut Glass, and together they shared their passion as members of the American Cut Glass Association.
Johnnie had a special bond with his loyal dog, Radar, who was more than a pet but a cherished companion. Their daily drives to John's farm, where Radar would joyfully chase cows and chickens, were a testament to Johnnie's love for simple pleasures and the beauty of nature.
Johnnie is survived by his loving wife Joan, their devoted son and daughter-in-law John and Cathy Oliver, cherished grandchildren John Thomas Oliver and Rachel Perez, and treasured great-grandchildren Haisley, Cady, Lynette, and R.J. He is also survived by his brother, Lacy Oliver, and sisters, June Robnett and Delilah Dawson. He is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Hazel, and his brother, R.W. “Bucky” Oliver.
Johnnie Hayes Oliver's life was a tapestry of love, hard work, and dedication—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends, and his contributions to his community will not be forgotten. May he rest in eternal peace, forever remembered and always loved.
