Johnnie Estella McDaniel

Johnnie Estella McDaniel, born on October 5, 1942, in Cherokee, Alabama, passed away on August 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with an illness. She was a beloved daughter of the late James and Mary Elizabeth Goodloe, and the cherished wife of the late L.B. McDaniel. Together, Johnnie and L.B. built a beautiful life, raising eight children and nurturing an ever-growing family that now spans over 60 members. Johnnie's life was a testament to love, resilience, and nurturing warmth. Her home was a haven where everyone felt welcome and no one ever left hungry. Known affectionately as "The Cornbread Lady," her passion for cooking shone through in the three hot meals she lovingly prepared daily. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and joy, filled with the aroma of her culinary delights and the laughter of family and friends. An avid gardener, Johnnie possessed a special touch that could make any plant flourish. Her vibrant garden was a reflection of her spirit—full of life and beauty. Whether tending to her vegetables or nurturing her beloved flowers, Johnnie found peace and happiness in the simple joys of nature. Johnnie was predeceased by her parents, James and Mary Elizabeth Goodloe, and her siblings: Willie Lou Goodloe, Tina Goodloe, Viola Turner, James Goodloe, Sally Mae Pettaway, Judy Kelley, and Joyce Goodloe. She is survived by her devoted children: Velma Patterson (Arthur), Wanda Clark (Larry), Debra McDaniel, Pamela McDaniel, Tosha McDaniel, Leonard McDaniel, Christy McDaniel, and Chaquitha Simpson (Howard). Siblings: Larry Goodloe (Lorene), Herman Goodloe, Lloyd Goodloe & Paula Wooden. Her legacy of love continues through her 24 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Ms. Teresa Farris, a dear friend and aide, Pete Noel, her chauffeur, and her special niece, Belinda Goodloe, for their unwavering support and love. They also express their deep gratitude to the staff at Mitchell Hollingsworth for the excellent care given to their mother. A celebration of Johnnie's life will be held on August 24, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Grace Memorial Funeral Home, located at 501 Broad Street, Sheffield, AL 35660. The family wishes to thank everyone for their kind words, messages, and prayers during this difficult time.
