March 30, 1937 — June 23, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and treasured memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Johnnie Charlie Svoboda, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Johnnie, affectionately known to many as "John," departed this life on June 23, 2026, at the age of 89, surrounded by the comfort and love of his home in Smitheville, Texas, the very place where his journey began on March 30, 1937.
Born to Charlie and Agnes (Sisak) Svoboda, Johnnie was the embodiment of kindness and humor. He carried the values imparted by his loving parents throughout his life, values that guided him in every endeavor and relationship. Predeceased by his parents and his cherished son, Sammy Svoboda, John is now reunited with them in eternal peace.
John leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. He is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Sue Svoboda, with whom he shared a beautiful journey of love and companionship that began on March 1, 2002, and was sealed in marriage on November 10, 2002. Together, they built a life full of cherished memories and unwavering support for one another.
John was the proud father of four children: Sharon Shaver (and husband Charlie), Suzanne Thibeaudeux (and husband Tim), Sara Dahl (and husband Jeff), and Stephen (and wife Donna). His family was his pride and joy, and he took great delight in the laughter and accomplishments of his 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
A man of education and dedication, John graduated from East Bernard High School in 1955 and pursued further studies at Wharton Jr. College. His career with the United States Department of Agriculture began in 1956 and spanned four decades, during which he held positions of increasing responsibility, culminating in his role as a District Supervisor in College Station. John retired in 1996, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and integrity. In 2002, John and his son Sam embarked on a new adventure together, founding the JDiamond Ranch—a testament to his enduring entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to family.
John found a spiritual home and a community of dear friends at Southview Baptist Church, where he was a member for 14 years. It was here that he formed many lasting relationships, including a special bond with the triplets, Clint Goebel, Trent Goebel, and Todd Moseley, who were like family to him.
Those who knew Johnnie will remember him for his quick wit, infectious smile, and his knack for storytelling. He always had a joke at the ready, eager to share laughter with anyone willing to listen. His warmth and humor were his gifts to the world, brightening the lives of all those fortunate enough to know him.
As we gather to celebrate the life of Johnnie Charlie Svoboda, we find solace in the indelible mark he left on our hearts. His life was a testament to love, family, and unwavering faith. May he rest in eternal peace, forever remembered and forever loved.
