It is with profound sadness yet deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Johnathan Rushing, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who departed this world peacefully in his home on April 27, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on July 7, 1946, in the vibrant city of Charlotte, North Carolina, Johnathan's life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to family and community. Johnathan was the cherished son of the late Edward Rushing and Mary Polard, whose nurturing spirit and values became the cornerstone of his own life. He carried their legacy forward with grace, strength, and a heart full of compassion. In the fullness of time, Johnathan was predeceased by his parents, four treasured children—Curtis, Rose, Sally, and Shondra—and five beloved grandchildren, Tequan, Abraham, Petey, Craig, and Tineya, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Despite these profound losses, Johnathan's spirit never wavered; he found solace and joy in the memories he shared with them and the love that endured. Johnathan's journey was enriched by his lifelong partnership with Arnetta Simon, with whom he shared a deep and abiding love. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and four beautiful children who were the light of their lives. Johnathan's greatest joy was being surrounded by his family, and he cherished every moment spent with his five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him endless pride and happiness. A pillar of his community, Johnathan's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to service and kindness. He was a friendly face and a helping hand to anyone in need, always offering words of wisdom and encouragement. His laughter was infectious, his stories captivating, and his faith unshakeable. Johnathan's legacy is one of love, resilience, and an unyielding commitment to those he held dear. To honor the remarkable life and spirit of Johnathan Rushing, a celebration of his life will be held on May 16, 2026, at the First Baptist Church. Friends and family are invited to gather and share in the memories of a man who touched so many lives with his kindness and generosity. As we bid farewell to Johnathan, we hold close the memories and lessons he imparted. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to guide us, living on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. We find peace in knowing that he is reunited with his loved ones who have gone before him, watching over us with love and grace. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Johnathan's memory to a charity of your choice, as a tribute to his giving nature and lifelong commitment to helping others. Johnathan Rushing will forever be remembered as a loving father, a devoted partner, a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, and a true friend. His life was a blessing to all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
