Born on June 8, 1986, in Queens, NY, Johnathan was a beacon of light to all who knew him, effortlessly blending charisma with a profound dedication to helping others.
Johnathan is survived by his loving wife, Lisa, whom he married on October 23, 2016. Together, they built a beautiful life in New York City, raising three wonderful daughters: Elena, Liliana, and Faye. His father, Johnny Matamoros, also survives him, carrying on the legacy of compassion and kindness that Johnathan so effortlessly embodied.
A proud alumnus of John Jay College, Johnathan earned his bachelor's degree before embarking on a career with the New York Police Department. Since joining the force in 2011, he rose through the ranks to become a Sergeant, most recently serving in the Training Bureau. His colleagues admired him for his approachable nature, his easygoing spirit, and his steadfast commitment to justice and community service.
Beyond the call of duty, Johnathan found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid gamer and enthusiastic anime fan, passions that allowed him to connect with others and unwind from the demands of his work. Those who knew him will fondly remember his infectious laughter and the way his eyes lit up when discussing the latest game or anime series.
Johnathan's journey in life was marked by his remarkable ability to uplift those around him. Even in his early days working in EMS, his willingness to help others was evident, setting the stage for a lifetime of service and care.
A service celebrating Johnathan's life will be held on October 5, 2026, at 9:45 AM at St. Clare’s Church, located at 110 Nelson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10308. Family, friends, and colleagues are invited to gather in remembrance of a man whose warmth and generosity left an indelible mark on the world.
Johnathan Matamoros will be dearly missed but never forgotten. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, inspiring all who knew him to carry forward his compassion, integrity, and love.
