John Wood, a cherished soul who graced this world with his boundless curiosity, warmth, and kindness, passed away on March 30, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on February 13, 1946, in Trinidad, Colorado, John left a profound mark on the lives of many through his kindness, intelligence, and unwavering love for his family and friends. John's journey through life was one of exploration and learning, marked by his impressive academic achievements. He earned two PhDs from Stanford University, delving deep into Chemistry and Mathematics. His thirst for knowledge also led him to earn a degree in technology from a school in Taos, New Mexico. Yet, despite his academic laurels, John remained humble, always eager to share his insights and wisdom with others. His life was a tapestry woven with diverse careers and passions. While his professional pursuits were many—including stints as a computer technician and car builder—his heart truly belonged to the art of luthiery. John's hands crafted guitars that sang with the spirit of the music he so dearly loved. He was a revered figure among musicians worldwide, not just for his craftsmanship but for the warmth and friendship he offered so generously. In 1995, a chance encounter at a Denver club would forever change the course of John's life. While playing drums, he met Jules Kennedy, the love of his life. Their first dance marked the beginning of a beautiful partnership that spanned over three decades. Together, they built a life filled with love, adventure, and a shared passion for living fully. Their journey took them across the Southwest and Midwest USA, where they created a home filled with laughter, music, and cherished memories. John's legacy is carried forward by his beloved life partner, Jules Kennedy; his son, Fox; his daughters, Margene and Kathy; his step-daughter, Stacy; and his daughter-in-law, Ivy. He is also survived by his brother, Gerald, and half-sister, Joanne, along with eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who will continue to feel his love and guidance in their hearts. His life was further enriched by the many close friends and musicians he connected with across the globe. A man of myriad talents, John was also known for his culinary skill, his knack for building and restoring cars and trucks, and his ability to fix almost anything. His generous spirit was evident in the way he always lent a helping hand, embodying the qualities of a thoughtful and humorous friend to all who knew him. John's final days were spent in the comforting presence of his loved ones, receiving compassionate care at UHC Parkview Medical Center and University Park Care Center in Pueblo, Colorado. The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff and to everyone who reached out with love and support during this difficult time. In accordance with his wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor John's life and legacy. The family kindly requests that those who wish to honor John's memory do so by embracing the kindness and curiosity he exemplified throughout his life. John Wood will be remembered as a brilliant mind, a dedicated craftsman, a loving partner, and a loyal friend. His spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those he touched, like the sweet melodies of the guitars he so skillfully created. Rest in peace, dear John. You will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing you.
