John Willie Crawford jr.
October 11, 1943 — October 27, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Willie Crawford Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who peacefully departed from this life on October 27, 2026, after a courageous battle with various health issues. Born on October 11, 1943, in Hickory Hills, Mississippi, John was a man who devoted his life to the love and care of his family and community.
John was the cherished son of the late John Willie Crawford Sr. and Mary Crawford. He was predeceased by his dear parents, his sister Margaret Ethel Crawford, his brother ReyNeil Crawford, and his eldest daughter, Christina Crawford. Despite the sorrow of these losses, John's heart remained open and full of love for those around him.
John shared a profound and enduring love with his wife, Mary Diana Smith Crawford, with whom he celebrated over 50 years of marriage. Together, they created a beautiful family, raising eleven children: John Crawford III, Gary (Brenda) Crawford, Teresa Crawford, Keenan Crawford, Marvin Crawford, James Crawford, Tracy Crawford, La Salle (Mel) Crawford, Shirley Crawford, Tasha (Maurice) Crawford, Titus Crawford, and Jermaine Black Whale Crawford. His legacy continues through the lives of his 100 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride.
For over three decades, John dedicated himself to his work at Cassidy Tires, retiring after 15 years from Castile Tires. His work ethic and dedication were admired by his colleagues and friends. Beyond his professional life, John was a man of diverse interests. He enjoyed watching football and basketball, cherished his time spent with family, and found solace and strength in attending church and participating in prayer lines. Conversations with his son-in-law and grandchildren, especially his daughter Tasha Crawford Bonds, were among his most treasured moments.
John's humor, gentle spirit, and infectious laughter left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was a man who found joy in life's simplest pleasures and was known for his ability to share a joke and a smile. Many who were not his biological children affectionately called him "Pops," a testament to his nurturing and generous nature.
A service to honor and celebrate John's life will be held on November 12, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Maryland Missionary Baptist Church, located at 8058 South Maryland Ave., Chicago, Illinois. All are welcome to join in remembering a life that touched so many.
