John William "Bill" Toland
December 30, 1950 — March 15, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of John William "Bill" Toland, who left us peacefully on March 15, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on December 30, 1950, in the charming town of Natchez, Mississippi, Bill was the cherished son of Johnnie Ray and Lois Perrett Toland. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend whose memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him.
Bill's early years were spent in Columbia, Mississippi, where he graduated from Columbia High School in 1969. During his school days, he formed lifelong friendships and embraced his love for sports, notably football and baseball, creating memories that he held dear throughout his life. Bill furthered his education at Pearl River Community College, a testament to his dedication to personal growth and learning.
Following in the footsteps of his father, Bill embarked on a fulfilling career at BellSouth, working alongside his brother, Jimmy. Over the course of 30 years, his commitment and work ethic left an indelible mark on his colleagues and the company, culminating in a well-deserved retirement that allowed him to enjoy the fruits of his labor.
While Bill wasn't known for his love of outdoor adventures, his family fondly recalls a humorous encounter with a particularly stubborn beaver—an anecdote that brought laughter and warmth to family gatherings, illustrating his light-hearted nature and ability to find joy in the simplest of moments.
Bill was blessed with a loving family who were his pride and joy. He was the devoted father to daughters Laura Kaye Cecil (John) of San Antonio, Texas, and Mary Morales (Bryan) of Freeport, Florida. He was also a doting grandfather to Oliver Morales, who brought immense happiness to his life. Though he is predeceased by his beloved wife, Betty, and granddaughter, Sadie Marguerite Warden, his legacy continues through his family, including his sister, Cynde Toland Moree, and brother, James Frank "Jimmy" Toland, both of Columbia, Mississippi. He also leaves behind a niece, nephews, aunts, cousins, and a network of friends who will remember him with affection and admiration.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Rosie Despain, whose compassionate care and unwavering support during the last two years of Bill's life were a blessing beyond measure.
In accordance with his wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor and celebrate Bill's life. As we bid farewell, we hold dear the memories of his warmth, humor, and gentle spirit.
Bill Toland's journey was marked by kindness, dedication, and love. Though his physical presence will be sorely missed, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. May he rest in eternal peace, reunited with those who have gone before him, and may we find comfort in the legacy of love he leaves behind.
