John Wesley Gray

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of John Wesley Gray on August 21, 2026, at his cherished home in Lagrange, GA. Born on February 16, 1930, in Lagrange, John's life was a testament to love, dedication, and community service. John was the beloved son of George and Ethel Gray. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Jerry, Melvin, and George Jr., and his sister Mary Gray. He is survived by his loving children, Cassandria Gay and Edward Gray, and his devoted siblings, brother Leroy Gray and sister Michelle Williams. His legacy continues through his three grandchildren, Jonathan Dickerson, Quentin Dickerson, and Jessica Owens, and his eleven great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. On June 3, 1958, John married the love of his life, Sarah Caldwell, in New Britain, Connecticut. Their marriage was a beautiful 68-year journey of love and partnership. John's academic journey began at Ethel W. Kight, where he graduated in 1948. His entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as he owned and operated several package stores throughout New Britain and New Haven, Connecticut, for over four decades. Even after retiring, his love for engaging with people led him to work as a greeter at Walmart, where his warm smile and kind words touched many lives. A pillar of his community, John was an active member of the First Baptist Church for over 40 years. His dedication to service extended as a longtime member and former president of the Rotary Club until 1989, and he was also a proud member of the American Legion. A service celebrating John's life will be held on August 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Three Life Church, located at 3472 Hogansville Rd, Lagrange, GA 30241. The family welcomes all who knew John to join them in honoring his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in memory of John Wesley Gray.
