It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved John Wesley Goodrich Jr., who departed this world peacefully at his home on February 6, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on December 5, 1948, in Portsmouth, Virginia, John was a cherished son of the late Ruby Virginia Dinkins and John Goodrich Sr.
A devoted brother to the late Shelby Goodrich and Ronald Goodrich, John's journey through life was marked by his unwavering love for family, his steadfast work ethic, and his zest for life's simple pleasures. He was preceded in death by his beloved companion, Linda Rae Jones, with whom he shared many cherished memories.
John dedicated over 25 years of his life working for the city of Harrisburg, where he was known for his diligence, integrity, and commitment to serving his community. His colleagues remember him as a man of principle, who was always willing to lend a helping hand and share a warm smile. Upon retiring from his beloved city, John left behind a legacy of hard work and dedication that inspires all who knew him.
Beyond his professional life, John was an avid football fan, with an unwavering loyalty to the Philadelphia Eagles. His passion for the game brought him endless joy, and he could often be found animatedly discussing the latest plays and scores. In quieter moments, John found solace in watching old cowboy movies, a pastime that reminded him of simpler times and timeless heroes.
John's greatest joy, however, was his family. He cherished every moment spent with loved ones, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. His warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit were a source of comfort and strength to his family, who will forever hold him in their hearts.
A service to honor and celebrate John's life will be held on February 18, 2026. As we gather to remember him, let us carry forward his light, his laughter, and his love, ensuring that his spirit continues to touch the lives of all who knew him.
