John Typrin
August 10, 1942 — July 4, 2026
John Typrin, a remarkable soul whose life was an embodiment of adventure, love, and deep intellectual curiosity, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026, at the age of 83. Born in the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on August 10, 1942, John was the cherished son of Jankel and Fanie Typrin. His journey through life was as colorful and diverse as the places he called home, including Israel and the United States.
John had an unquenchable passion for words, languages, and ideas, which led him to a distinguished career as a journalist, philosopher, and consultant. He lent his talents to revered institutions such as Reuters and the CBC, and served as a consultant for the U.S. government and numerous international organizations. Yet, beyond his professional accolades, what truly defined John was his profound love for his family.
He imparted invaluable lessons to his children, shaping their lives with wisdom and love. John believed in the power of taking bold steps, famously advising, "Leap and the net will appear." He encouraged questioning authority and forging one's own path, teaching that "if you want to be like me, then be yourself." These guiding principles, along with his love for philosophy and learning, left an indelible mark on his family.
John's life was a tapestry of experiences and adventures. He spoke five languages fluently, traveled extensively across continents, and embraced the world’s vast array of cultures. He found his soulmate, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage, and together they raised three children who were the pride and joy of his life. His mantra, "A no you have, and a yes you can get," inspired those around him to pursue their dreams fearlessly.
Despite life's challenges, John was a pillar of strength and compassion. His family was his greatest treasure, and he derived immense happiness from their achievements and stories. His love and encouragement were the constant forces that uplifted those he held dear.
A celebration of John's life will be held on July 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hebrew Cemetery, located at 1801 Statesville Ave, Charlotte, NC 28206. While we gather to honor his memory, we remember a man whose life was a testament to love, courage, and authenticity.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in John's memory to a charity of your choice, celebrating his generous spirit and commitment to making the world a better place.
