John Tenderson

John Tenderson, beloved father, grandfather, and renowned musician, passed away peacefully in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 86, after a brave battle with Lewy Body Syndrome. Born on February 13, 1923, in Dallas, John was the cherished son of the late Granderson and Anna Tenderson. His life was a testament to dedication, creativity, and an unyielding spirit that touched all who knew him. John grew up in Dallas, where he developed a passion for music and a love for classic rock. He graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1939 and quickly became immersed in the world of music, founding and leading several classic rock bands, including Stone, Xcrete, Rockabilly Addiction, and Digital Obsession. His contributions to music were honored when he was posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011. John's life was enriched by his marriage to Katie Tenderson on June 27, 1952. Together, they shared a deep love for classic television shows, warm blankets, and the joys of family life. Their home in Dallas was a gathering place for their children, Sarah June, Mary Beth, and Lowell, and later, their grandchildren, Betty and Edward. Alongside his musical career, John was a successful restaurateur, owning the popular Italian bistro, Dangus. His entrepreneurial spirit and attention to detail made the restaurant a beloved hotspot in the community, continuing to thrive even after his passing. John was a man of many talents and interests. He served his country with distinction as a WWII veteran and was awarded the infamous World's Most Unwanted medal for his exemplary service. His commitment to community service was evident through his active membership in organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club, Fellowship Church, and the NRA. A passionate writer, John contributed to Pass Out Magazine for over seven decades, using his platform to tackle issues like inappropriate censorship. His love for sports was well-known, and he famously threw the fastest pitch ever recorded in a Cleveland stadium during a Cleveland Sox versus Kansas City game. In addition to his professional and personal accomplishments, John was a family man at heart. He cherished his role as a father and grandfather, instilling values of integrity, kindness, and perseverance in his loved ones. His legacy lives on through his surviving children, Mary Beth and Lowell, and his grandchildren, Betty and Edward. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katie; daughter, Sarah June; and his parents, Granderson and Anna. He is survived by his siblings, Ronder Ronnie and Genny, who remember him fondly as a brother who never committed a single crime and always stood by his principles. A service to celebrate John's extraordinary life was held at Southern Methodist Church, where family and friends gathered to honor a man who left an indelible mark on their hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory can be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association Inc, celebrating his life and commitment to supporting those affected by the disease. John Tenderson's life was a symphony of vibrant experiences, and his memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
