John Steven Davenport, a devoted family man, skilled craftsman, and proud military veteran, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on September 14, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on October 13, 1946, in Oakridge, Tennessee, John grew up surrounded by the warmth and love of his parents, John Hadley and Myrtel Beatrice Davenport, and his younger siblings, Linda and Danny. After graduating from Lincoln Park High, John pursued higher education at Bob Jones College, where he honed his skills and knowledge. In 1968, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Air Force and dedicating four years of his life to military service. His time in the Air Force was a testament to his unwavering dedication and patriotic spirit. John's professional life was marked by a long and fulfilling career as a plant supervisor at the Ford Motor Company Forge Plant. His colleagues remember him as a hardworking and compassionate leader, always willing to lend a helping hand and share his extensive expertise. Beyond his professional accomplishments, John was a man of many passions. He found joy in the tranquility of fishing and took great pride in raising fish. His love for woodworking was evident in the beautiful picnic tables and furniture he crafted, each piece a reflection of his meticulous attention to detail and creative spirit. John's personal life was enriched by his marriages to Jeanne R, Linda B, and Linda R,and his lady friend Ginny . He was a loving father to his four children: Kathryn Hamlin, April Shipley, John Davenport, and William Davenport. His legacy continues through his seven cherished grandchildren: Carl and Kevin Hamlin, Ashley and Hollie Shipley, Logen Harvey, and Miranda and John Davenport. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Brian Shipley, Briley Partin, Makenna and Mayson Bragg, and Lily Hamlin. Though he was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John's spirit lives on in the hearts of his surviving siblings, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His family will forever cherish the memories of a man who embodied kindness, perseverance, and unwavering love. A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor John's remarkable life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization close to John's heart, supporting those who have served bravely. John Steven Davenport's life was a journey of love, service, and craftsmanship. He leaves behind a legacy of strength and dedication, having touched the lives of all who knew him with his warmth and wisdom. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
