John Smith, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on September 24, 1952, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the beloved son of Lester Lee Smith and Iris Faye Pryor. John was a man of extraordinary skill and generosity. Blessed with a natural aptitude for fixing things, he became the go-to person for local farmers and friends throughout his life. Whether it was welding broken equipment or restoring life to a stubborn machine, John's hands worked miracles, and his heart was always open to lend a helping hand. He dedicated his professional life to working as an electrician with several distinguished companies including Fairchild, Rohr Industries, BF Goodrich aerospace, and the Herald Mail. His commitment to excellence and integrity in his work earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. In addition to his career, John had a passion for amateur radio, a hobby that brought him immense joy and lasting friendships. As a founding member of the Cheese Hollow Amateur Radio Association, he was an integral part of the community, sharing his love for communication and connection with others. John was predeceased by his dear brother, Lawrence, and is survived by his loving children, John Smith and Marianne Small. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Mason Smith, Cole Small, and Iris Small, as well as his great-grandchild, Kensley Small. He is also survived by his devoted sisters, Faye Myers and Gloria Bowman, who shared in many of his life’s joyful moments. In his leisure time, John found great enjoyment in watching Nascar and immersing himself in the captivating world of spaghetti westerns. These simple pleasures brought him happiness and relaxation, reflecting his appreciation for life's little joys. His family will remember him as a man of remarkable character, whose kindness, humor, and warmth touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. While a private ceremony will be held to honor his life, the impact he made will resonate far beyond the confines of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in John's memory, celebrating his spirit of generosity and love for helping others.
