With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of John Showacre, who left this world far too soon on April 6, 2026, at the age of 45. John was born on March 28, 1981, a beacon of light and vivacity, whose presence brought joy to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was tragically cut short due to a senseless accident, when he was struck by a drunk driver.
John was a devoted son to his beloved mother, Karla Nelson, who survives him. He was preceded in death by cherished family members, including his Uncle Rusty Nelson, Charla Nelson, and Norma Nelson, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms into eternity.
From a young age, John possessed a remarkable energy and personality that lit up any room he entered. His zest for life was evident in both his personal and professional endeavors. As a chef for the PGA Tour, John’s culinary talents were celebrated by many, and his creations brought comfort and delight to countless individuals who enjoyed his meals. His passion for food was matched only by his love for the game of golf, a sport he not only excelled in but also cherished deeply.
John's interests extended beyond the golf course. He was an avid scuba diver, exploring the depths of the ocean with awe and admiration for the world beneath the waves. His love for waterfowl hunting allowed him to connect with nature and share cherished moments with friends and family in the great outdoors. Moreover, John was a seasoned traveler, always eager to discover new places and immerse himself in diverse cultures, which enriched his life and broadened his horizons.
Though John did not have children of his own, he touched the lives of countless individuals, imparting wisdom, kindness, and an infectious enthusiasm for life. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, as they remember a man who embodied compassion, humor, and an unwavering spirit.
As we gather to celebrate John’s life, we hold onto the memories of a remarkable individual whose impact on this world was profound. His laughter, warmth, and kindness will forever remain in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), an organization dedicated to preventing the tragedy that befell John.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on April 15, 2026, at the Green Hills Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m., where friends and family will come together to honor and remember a life well-lived.
In our sorrow, we find solace in knowing that John’s spirit will continue to inspire us, and his memory will forever be cherished. Rest in peace, dear John, knowing you were deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
