Born on March 28, 1981, in Lafayette, Louisiana, John was a beloved son, friend, and community member whose vibrant spirit touched the hearts of all who knew him.
John was the cherished son of Karla Nelson and Jack Showacre, who survive him, and was predeceased by his uncle, Rusty Nelson, his beloved Granny, Norma Nelson, and his Big Pop, Charles Nelson. The love and values instilled in him by his family remained a guiding light throughout his life.
An accomplished scholar, John pursued his education at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Louisiana State University, and Le Cordon Bleu in Austin, Texas. His passion for the culinary arts led him to an illustrious career as a professional chef for over 25 years, culminating in his dream role as a Chef on the PGA TOUR. John's culinary creations were as vibrant and warm as his personality, leaving a lasting legacy in the hearts and palates of many.
Beyond his professional achievements, John was a man of varied interests and passions. He was an ardent member of organizations such as the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, and Back the Blue, reflecting his deep-seated respect for tradition and community. His love for waterfowl hunting, scuba diving, and traveling brought him joy and adventure, while his passion for golf, kindled in his childhood, remained a steadfast companion throughout his life.
John's love for animals was evident in his dedication to animal rescue, and his family kindly requests that those who wish to honor his memory make donations to local animal shelters. This gesture would undoubtedly resonate with John's enduring commitment to compassion and care for all living beings.
A man of one-of-a-kind energy, John possessed an infectious laughter and a generous spirit.
