In Loving Memory of John Showacre
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Showacre, a beloved son, cherished friend, and exceptional chef. John departed this world far too soon on April 10, 2026, at the age of 45, in Los Angeles, California, after a tragic accident caused by a drunk driver.
Born on March 28, 1981, in Lafayette, Louisiana, John was a beacon of joy and warmth, bringing light and laughter into the lives of all who knew him. He was the treasured son of Karla Nelson and Jack Showacre, who survive him, carrying forward his legacy of love and kindness. John was predeceased by his dear Uncle Rusty Nelson, his Granny Norma Nelson, and his Big Pop Charles Nelson, who have all surely welcomed him with open arms into the eternal embrace of peace.
John's educational journey was marked by a deep commitment to his passions. He graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and further pursued his culinary aspirations at Louisiana State University and Le Cordon Bleu in Austin, Texas. His dedication to his craft was unparalleled, and over the course of 25 years, he honed his skills to become a master chef. His culinary journey culminated in his dream role as a Chef on the PGA TOUR, where his artistry in the kitchen was celebrated by many.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, John was a man of many interests and talents. He was a proud member of the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, and “Back the Blue.” His love for waterfowl hunting and scuba diving was rivaled only by his passion for traveling and animal rescue. Golf, a sport he adored since childhood, remained a lifelong passion, blending his love for nature and camaraderie.
John's presence was magnetic; he had a one-of-a-kind energy that radiated warmth and joy. His laughter was infectious, his helping hand always extended, and his ability to make everyone feel appreciated and welcome was a testament to his generous spirit. John lived his life with an open heart, drawing people to him with his compassionate nature and leaving an indelible mark on all who crossed his path.
In accordance with the family's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor John's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John's memory to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, an organization close to his heart, reflecting his dedication to making the world a safer place for all.
As we bid farewell to John, we hold on to the memories that will forever remain etched in our hearts. May we find comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us, and may we honor his life by carrying forward the love and kindness he so freely shared.
Rest in peace, dear John. You will be missed beyond measure, but never forgotten.
