In Loving Memory

John Samuel Dietenbeck
February 17, 1939 — March 28, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Samuel Dietenbeck, a beloved uncle, stepfather, and friend, who departed this world peacefully at home on March 28, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 17, 1939, in Los Alamitos, CA, John lived a life marked by resilience, adventure, and an unwavering dedication to those he loved.
John was the cherished son of Frederick and Catherine Dietenbeck, both of whom preceded him in death, along with his siblings, Julia, Charlie, and Becky. He was also predeceased by his beloved wife, Joann (Jodie) Dietenbeck, with whom he shared a life filled with love and adventure. John is survived by his great nephew, Josh Hinds and his wife Ashley, as well as his step-sons, Mike Norman with his wife Lindell, and Matt Norman with his wife Amy, who will all continue to honor his legacy.
In the early 1960s, John moved to California in search of opportunity and found his calling in the world of aeronautical manufacturing. His career in this field, particularly his remarkable rise through the ranks, was a source of immense pride. John’s ingenuity and problem-solving skills were emblematic of his gambler's spirit, always seeking solutions and new horizons. This spirit didn’t just define his career but also his approach to life, where he was known for being the life of every room he entered and for his honesty in expressing care and affection to those around him.
Upon retiring from Boeing, John and Jodie returned to their roots in Los Alamitos, where they spent their golden years nurturing their beloved parrot, Missy. Their home was a haven of warmth and laughter, and their travels—whether to the sun-kissed beaches of Cancun or the vibrant casinos of the Bellagio in Las Vegas—were testament to their shared love of adventure and joy.
John's life will be celebrated on April 14, 2026, at St. Hedwick Catholic Church, where family and friends will gather to remember a man whose impact was as profound as his heart was generous. Those who knew John will recall his zest for life, his forthrightness, and his unwavering love for his family and friends. His legacy is one of resilience, love, and the courage to face life’s challenges head-on.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in memory of John to the cancer research charity of your choice, to help others fighting the battle John faced with such dignity and strength. Though he may have left this earth, John’s spirit lives on in the hearts and memories of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
