It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Richard Black, lovingly known as Richard, who left this world peacefully on September 12, 2026, at the age of 92. Richard was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew him. Born on January 1, 1934, Richard lived a life marked by dedication, love, and a commitment to his family and work. He spent over 50 years of his career as a color engineer with Kellogg, where his expertise and passion for his craft left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the industry. Richard shared a remarkable 72-year marriage with his beloved wife, Jean Black. Their enduring love and partnership were a testament to their deep bond and mutual respect. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter, navigating life's joys and challenges side by side. Richard was a devoted father who was predeceased by his sons, James and Rick Black, whom he has now joined in peaceful rest. His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren: Scott Black, Brian Black, Eric Black, Keith Black, Stephanie Hill, Kristin Black, and Cassi Black, each of whom carries forward his spirit of kindness, humor, and integrity. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Spring Arbor Retirement Home for their compassionate care and support, ensuring Richard's comfort in his final days. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Richard’s memory by donating to a charity of your choice, reflecting his lifelong commitment to helping others.
