It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Plunkett, who left this world peacefully on July 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 29, 1949, in Barstow, California, John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many with his kindness and dedication.
John was a true son of Barstow, graduating from Barstow High School in 1967. He took immense pride in his roots and continued to be an active and cherished member of the community throughout his life. His path led him to a fulfilling 30-year career with the Santa Fe Railroad, where he worked diligently and retired in 1999. John's commitment to his work was only surpassed by his love for his family, which was the cornerstone of his life.
In 1970, John married the love of his life, Molly, and together they built a beautiful life over 55 wonderful years. Their enduring love and partnership were an inspiration to all who knew them. John and Molly were blessed with three children: Jason (married to Kristen), Justin (married to Jen), and Emily (married to Anthony). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to three grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
John was predeceased by his beloved sister, Virginia, whose memory he cherished deeply. He is survived by his wife Molly, his children and grandchildren, and his brothers, Bill and James, who will all hold John's memory close to their hearts.
John's life was a testament to the values of hard work, loyalty, and love. He was a man of quiet strength and gentle humor, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a warm smile. His legacy will live on in the stories and memories shared by those who knew him.
In honor of John's life, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to a charity of one's choice. As we remember John, we celebrate a life well lived and the enduring impact he has had on those around him.
