John “Peter” Ferguson Murray

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John “Peter” Ferguson Murray, who departed this world peacefully on May 21, 2026, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, after a brief illness. Born on April 1, 1962, Peter was a beacon of love and joy to all who had the privilege to know him.
Peter was the beloved son of the late Joseph Rudolph Murray and Elizabeth (Wilson) Murray, who predeceased him. He was also preceded in death by his cherished son, Marcus Murray, and siblings Mamye (Tolbert) Fitzgerald, Bertha (Tolbert) Wright, Mike Tolbert, Roxanne Rosetta (Murray) Davis, and brother-in-law, Franklin D. Fitzgerald Sr.
Peter leaves behind his devoted wife of 28 years, Brenda (Jenkins) Murray. Their marriage, which began on August 21, 1998, in Philadelphia, was a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, they nurtured their blended family that includes their beloved children: Chanel, Andre, Eboney, Sean, and Donte Murray. Peter’s legacy continues through his ten treasured grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
He is also survived by his siblings, Louise (John) Patterson, Howard (Sharnel) Murray, and Joseph (Debbie Walters) Murray. Peter’s family was his pride and joy, and his love for them knew no bounds.
Peter’s educational journey began at Media Elementary School and continued through Penncrest High School. A true jack- of-all-trades, Peter’s career spanned an impressive 51 years. From working as a sanitation engineer to a landscaper, mover, and healthcare provider, no task was too small or too daunting for him. He approached each job with dedication and a commitment to excellence.
In his early years, Peter played football for Rose Tree Media, showcasing his love for sports and teamwork. His interests extended to traveling and spending quality time with family and close friends. Peter’s engaging smile and gift for making people feel valued were hallmarks of his character. He was known for being a great tipper and could always be found on the dance floor, sharing his infectious joy.
A celebration of Peter’s life will be held on June 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Second Baptist Church, located at 400 E. State Street, Media, PA 19063. Family and friends are invited to join in remembering a life well-lived and the indelible mark Peter left on the hearts of those who knew him.
