John Patrick Howey
September 22, 1962 — April 28, 2026
It is with profound sadness and love that we announce the passing of John Patrick Howey, who departed this world on April 28, 2026, after a courageous battle with illness, surrounded by the warmth and care of his beloved family. Born on September 22, 1962, John was a beacon of love, dedication, and joy to all who knew him.
John was the cherished son of Barbara and Leslie Trelfa. Predeceased by his mother, Barbara, John leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Michelle, whom he met in 1985 and married on September 18, 1987. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love, shared dreams, and countless cherished moments. Together, they enjoyed a life filled with laughter, attending concerts, savoring their 'coffee talks,' and sharing treasured memories with lifelong friends Bruce and Shell.
John was a devoted father to his children, Jeremy (Danielle) and Jessica (Benjamin), who were his pride and joy. His love for them was only matched by his adoration for his three grandchildren, whose lives he enriched with his joyful spirit and unwavering support. Known fondly as Grandpa, John never missed a chance to cheer them on at soccer games, gymnastics, school performances, and horse shows. His presence, marked by his silly voices, big mustache, and ever-present cup of coffee, will be dearly missed.
He was a beloved brother to Andrea Zomerfeld, Mark Howey, John Howey, Matthew Howey, and Luke Howey, each of whom held a special place in his heart. John's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he was theirs.
For 39 honorable years, John was a dedicated and hardworking employee at Canfield Equipment, where his commitment and work ethic were admired by all who had the privilege of working alongside him. His colleagues remember him as a man of integrity and kindness, whose presence was a source of inspiration.
Outside of work, John found joy and peace in simple pleasures. He was an avid fisherman, a lover of classic cars, and treasured every moment spent with friends and family. However, his most cherished role was that of a grandfather, a role he embraced with love and enthusiasm.
A celebration of John's remarkable life will be held on May 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mandziuk & Sons, located at 3801 18 Mile Rd, Sterling Heights, MI 48314. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived and a man well-loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization dear to his heart. Donations can be made at St. Jude's Donation Page.
John Patrick Howey touched the lives of many with his warmth, humor, and unwavering love. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, dear John. Your legacy of love and kindness will never be forgotten.
