June 5, 1934 — June 5, 2026

John Patrick Callaghan, a man whose life was marked by kindness, wisdom, and a deep love for his family, passed away peacefully on his 92nd birthday, June 5, 2026, in the city of his birth, New York, NY. Born on June 5, 1934, John was a beacon of strength and integrity, touching the lives of all who knew him with his compassionate spirit and unwavering devotion to those he loved. John was the beloved husband of the late Dolores Malloy, his cherished partner in life with whom he shared 64 beautiful years of marriage. Their union, which began on May 2, 1959, was a testament to enduring love and partnership, providing a foundation of warmth and support to their family. Together, they nurtured a home filled with laughter, learning, and love, values that John carried throughout his life. A proud alumnus of Manhattan College, John pursued his passion for electrical engineering, culminating in a Master’s degree from the University of Maryland. His career was characterized by innovation and dedication, as he contributed significantly to his field, always driven by a desire to make the world a better place through his work. John was a devoted father to his surviving children: Ann (married to Daniel Warcholak), John (married to Roxana Gonzales), Carol (married to Robert Evans), and Christine (married to Leonard LaPetina). He instilled in them the virtues of compassion, resilience, and the importance of family, lessons that have been passed down to his grandchildren, Kathryn (married to Kyle Raab), Daniel (married to Victoire Barreto), Natasha (married to Tom Switzer), Leonard LaPetina, Patrick Evans, Sophia LaPetina, Sean Evans, Evelyn LaPetina, and his precious great-granddaughter, Zoe Warcholak. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores, and his son, Robert, whom he deeply cherished. Robert's memory remains alive in the hearts of those who knew him, including his wife, Usha Maharaj. John's legacy is one of love, faith, and generosity. He was a man who gave freely of himself, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was a quiet evening with a good book, a lively family gathering, or a solitary walk in the park. His laughter was infectious, his wisdom profound, and his love unconditional. In honoring John's life, his family invites those who knew him to join in celebrating his remarkable journey, a life well-lived and filled with purpose. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. A memorial service will be held at a later date to honor John's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in John's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his lifelong commitment to kindness and community support. Though he will be deeply missed, John Patrick Callaghan's legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the love he shared. His journey may have reached its end, but his spirit and the indelible mark he left on this world will endure forever.
