John A. Marcus, Sr.

John A. Marcus, Sr. a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on August 10, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 15, 1947, in Kansas City, Kansas, John lived a life full of love, dedication, and hard work. The son of Frank and Gladys Marcus, John was raised with strong family values and a steadfast work ethic. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Frank Marcus, his son John Marcus Jr., and his great-granddaughter Sophia Stapleton. John's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he leaves behind his cherished wife of 62 years, Mildred. Together, they built a loving family that includes his daughter Nancy and her husband Steve, as well as his grandchildren: Ashley Levesque (Matthew), Stephanie Heaton, Aaron Stapleton (Niki), Tiffani Waller (Carl), Jacob Marcus, Madison Marcus, and Paiton Jeffers (Brayden). He was also the proud great-grandfather of five great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his later years. John pursued his education at Kansas City Kansas Community College, where he earned an Associate Degree. His career at The Metro was marked by dedication and growth, starting as a mechanic and working his way up to facility management before his retirement. John's colleagues and friends admired his expertise and reliability, always turning to him when they needed guidance. Beyond his professional achievements, John found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid reader, often losing himself in the pages of a good book. His hands were rarely idle, as he loved to tinker and fix things around the house. Yet, it was during his fishing trips that John found true relaxation and peace, with a fishing pole in hand and nature surrounding him. John was a man known for his unwavering support and wisdom. He was the person everyone turned to for advice on how to tackle life’s challenges. His kindness, patience, and incredible ability to listen made him a pillar in both his family and community. A celebration of John’s life will be held at Maple Hill Funeral Home, located at 3300 Shawnee Dr, Kansas City, KS 66106. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John’s memory to the Children's Mercy Hospital Foundation in Kansas City, MO. John Marcus leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and kindness. His memory will be forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
