In Loving Memory

John Lewis
September 12, 1939 — March 19, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of John Lewis, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. John departed this world peacefully on March 19, 2026, at the age of 86, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by the love and warmth of his cherished family.
Born on September 12, 1939, in the small yet vibrant town of Burlington, Kansas, John brought immense joy and laughter to the world from the moment he entered it. He was the beloved son of John and Mary Lewis, who preceded him in death but left an indelible mark on his life and character.
John's journey through life was characterized by his boundless charisma and a personality that could light up any room. Known for his playful pranks and a treasure trove of jokes, he had a unique ability to bring smiles to faces and joy to hearts. His presence was a gift, one that family and friends cherished immensely.
A proud graduate of Burlington High School in 1957, John embodied the spirit of hard work and determination. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to create and own his own gas station, a testament to his skill, dedication, and love for automobiles. It was here that he combined his passion for cars with his exceptional ability to connect with people, forming lifelong friendships and leaving an enduring legacy in his community.
In 1996, John found the love of his life, Linda, with whom he shared an extraordinary 30 years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising four children—Thad and Jennifer Lewis, Anthony and Amy Lewis, Marc and Kasey Lewis, and Matt and Dolly Lewis—imbuing them with the same values of love, laughter, and resilience that defined John's own life. His children were his pride and joy, and his love for them knew no bounds.
John was also the adored grandfather of nine wonderful grandchildren—Morgan, Dane, Lynnette, Daylee, Aryn, Hailee, Aidan, Rylie, and D'Anna—and the proud great-grandfather of Tucker. He cherished every moment spent with them, particularly relishing the times when they would gather at his home, eager to learn about cars under his expert tutelage. His legacy of knowledge and humor will undoubtedly continue through the lives of these young souls.
Though our hearts are heavy with his passing, we find solace in the vibrant memories he leaves behind and the lessons he imparted. John's life was a testament to the power of laughter, the importance of family, and the strength found in community. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
In keeping with John's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor his life and legacy. The family kindly requests that any memorial contributions be made in John's name to a charity of the donor's choice, celebrating his spirit of giving and kindness.
As we say our final goodbyes, we hold tight to the laughter, the warmth, and the endless love that John brought into our lives. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may we find comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved parents, John and Mary.
Rest in peace, dear John. Your love and laughter will live on in our hearts forever.
