John L. Currid Jr.
March 22, 1936 - June 17, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John L. Currid Jr., our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on June 17, 2026, at his home in Albemarle, NC, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 22, 1936, in Danbury, Connecticut, John was the cherished son of John L. Currid Sr. and Constance Philip Currid. He was predeceased by his wife, Rachel Lois Phillips Currid and his brother, Bernard Provost, both of Fort Mohave, Arizona, and AJ Andrews of Katy, Texas.
Graduating from Danbury High School, John immediately enlisted in the US Army, where he proudly served in the 82nd Airborne and 77th Special Forces, earning the National Defense Service Medal and Parachutist Badge at Fort Bragg. His sense of family, respect, and duty was evident throughout his life and was an amazing example to his family.
John's life was a life well lived and he was considered to be a true character by many. He proposed to his beloved Rachel on their first date while ice skating in Danbury, CT and they were married a couple years later. Together, they created a lifetime of cherished memories, including many happy years cruising with family.
John was an avid golfer well into his late eighties, he found joy in the outdoors, gardening, feeding the birds, and tinkering with gadgets in his garage. He was a lover of fine food, great wine, enjoying a good cigar and an Irish Whiskey. His quick wit, warm smile and sense of humor kept us all on our toes. He delighted in sharing family stories, classical music, and old westerns, especially with his grandchildren.
John is survived by his children: John L. Currid III of Winthrop, NY; Kathleen S. Andrews and her husband Alan Andrews of Katy, Texas; Kevin B. Currid and his wife Tamara Currid of Brandon, Vermont; and Colleen C. Ogrodnick and her husband Nicholas Ogrodnick of Matthews, North Carolina. Currid, and great-grandchildren: Riley and Joseph (Levi) Burroughs, Atticus Currid, Spencer and Avery Ogrodnick, Sawyer and Caroline (Lilly) Evans. He is also survived by his childhood friend John Blodgett of Danbury, CT,; their friendship is a testament to their love and enduring relationships that spanned a lifetime.
A funeral service will be held in celebration of John's life on July 18, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, located at 104 Main St., Danbury, CT 06810.
