John Joseph Roop, cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on August 23, 1962, in Aurora, Illinois, John was the beloved son of the late Herbert J. and Mary (Colwell) Roop. John grew up in Aurora, where he developed a lifelong passion for the great outdoors, spending countless hours hunting and fishing. He found solace in nature and shared this love with his family and friends, creating treasured memories that will be cherished forever. John also had a unique talent for butchering wild game, a skill that he honed over the years and shared generously with those around him. A dedicated and hard-working man, John spent his career at National Brush in Aurora, Illinois, and later at Lake Holiday Marina in Somonauk, Illinois. He was known for his strong work ethic, loyalty, and the camaraderie he shared with his colleagues. His humor and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met. John was a proud member of the Fox Valley Rugby Club, where he forged enduring friendships and enjoyed the camaraderie and spirit of the game. His teammates remember him for his sportsmanship, determination, and infectious laughter that could light up any room. In addition to his professional and recreational pursuits, John's greatest pride and joy were his family. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Sara Roop, and his precious grandchildren, Layla and Jaxson Anderson, who adored their grandpa. John was also a devoted brother to Mark (Luann) Roop, Herbert (Skip) Roop, and Jessica (Howie) Seidelman, and several nieces and nephews. He shared a lifelong bond with his best friend, Mike Mindar, and treasured the companionship of his cat, Weezie. John was predeceased by his loving parents and his sister, Rhonda (Gary) Grief, whose memories he held dearly. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the medical staff and caregivers who provided compassionate care to John during his illness. John Joseph Roop will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for those around him. His legacy of kindness and courage will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him. As we say goodbye, we celebrate his life and the profound impact he made on the world.
