February 16, 1954 — July 5, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Jones, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who departed this world peacefully on July 5, 2026, at the age of 72. John was born on February 16, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Henry and Jonnie Jones. John grew up in the heart of Detroit, where he was raised alongside his siblings in a loving and supportive family. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings: sisters Mamie Wright, Sue Mae Smith, and Charlene Jones, and brothers Charles Jones, Mikey Jones, and Roosevelt Jones. Despite these losses, John found strength and solace in the beautiful family he built with his cherished wife, Etta. John and Etta were the embodiment of true love, having shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. They were married on July 12, 1966, in Detroit, a city that held a special place in their hearts. Together, they were blessed with four daughters: Susan Ty, Judi Johnson, Jocelyn Woodward, and Carla Wells. John took immense pride in his family and was a devoted father whose love and guidance shaped the lives of his children and grandchildren. A graduate of Murray Wright High School in Detroit, John's dedication to hard work and education set an example for his family and community. His warm spirit and steadfast commitment to his family were evident in the lives of his 40 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride. John's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and perseverance. He was known for his generous heart, his ability to listen without judgment, and his unwavering commitment to those he loved. His presence brought light into the lives of all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. A service to celebrate John's life will be held on July 16, 2026, at 1:00 PM at St. Mark AME, located at 245 Main. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring a life well-lived and to share in the memories of a man whose impact will be felt forever. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his spirit of generosity and care for others. John Jones will be deeply missed, but his love will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
